Social Security Disability

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSD or SSDI) is a payroll tax-funded, federal insurance program of the United States government. It is implemented by the Social Security Administration and is designed to provide disability insurance payments to people who are physically restricted in their ability to work because of disability.  These cases typically involve physical disability but can also be brought for disability based upon documented mental problems.  The amount that a recipient receives monthly is based upon an average of past earnings.  To be eligible for SSDI, you must have a physical or mental condition that prevents you from engaging in any "substantial gainful activity" and that said condition is expected to last at least 12 months or result in death.
